BRP Benguet (LT507)

BRP Benguet (LT507) left Puerto Princesa City this morning, November 14, 2011, with 1,600 students and sports officials that comprises the athletic delegations coming from the different municipalities of Palawan. These delegations will compete on the Palarong Panlalawigan 2011 which will be held in the island municipality of Cuyo. LT507 departed 6 o’clock this morning and is expected to arrive in Cuyo at 6 o’clock the following day.

The vessel was requested by the provincial government of Palawan to alleviate the requirements of the delegations who will participate on the athletic meet in Cuyo. The ferry mission will be exclusive for the athletes and sports officials that are mostly coming from mainland Palawan. The Palarong Panlalawigan will be held on November 19 to 24, 2011.

The Philippine Navy through Naval Forces West (NFW) supports the Palarong Panlalawigan not only by providing transportation but also by ensuring the safety of the delegates. In fact, a group of NFW personnel will be sent along with LT507 to mainly look after the civilian passengers while in transit to Cuyo Island and back. Moreover, these personnel will also be conducting civic action programs in tandem with the local government of Cuyo.

BRP Benguet will ferry back the athletes to Puerto Princesa on November 25, 2011.
